Acrylic & Oil Painting

My first foray into real acrylic painting happened in early high school. I was never a big fan of drawing, so I expected to hate painting. I was wrong.

Over the past few years, I’ve mostly focused on landscapes, real or imagined, that draw on places I have been. My biggest learning has been how to work with color for more range, subtlety, and atmosphere.

ILLUSTRATION

I enjoy illustrating in a large variety of styles and experimenting with new applications of shape and color. One of my greatest inspirations for illustration is Eyvind Earle and several other of the Disney greats both past and present.

Watercolors

Watercolors work very differently from acrylics. You can’t cover them the same, and you need to think about leaving space for the light to shine through. Experimenting with both media, it’s an interesting challenge to alter my workflow to suit the current media.
